I always get nervous watching the guys play around on the four-wheelers. With all the wheelies, jumps, fast turns, cookies and other stuff they do, I knew sooner or later there would be a crash. Michael went four-wheeling with his friends down in the pit at their house and he ended up hitting the front brakes and the four wheeler threw him off and then rolled on top of him. Lucky the guys he was with were super nice and helped him up and got him and the four wheeler back to our house all safely. So thank you to the Thompsons down the street! When he got home we knew immediately that his wrist was broken, but he thought maybe his shoulder was broken as well, and his leg hurt really bad (that's where the weight of the four wheeler hit him when it flipped). He was right. His left clavicle is broken as well as his right wrist. Poor kid. I'm proud of him though because as tough as it's been he's been a trooper.
So here are some pictures of his wrist. It's kind of hard to see because I couldn't get the right angle but if you look close you can see two huge "bumps" one more red than the other one (the ice was on it).
This is his leg-
As far as his shoulder, I didn't get a pic of it before we went to the doctor because it hurt too bad for him to take his shirt off which is the only way you can see any displacement anyways. Here are a couple of pictures of the x-ray of his left clavicle though.
So, for those of you who can't see where the break is, if you look at the top right area of his shoulder, there is a bone below the top bone. Those two bones should be together. They obviously aren't. The break is good in the fact that it just needs to be pushed together so it can fuse together, but it doesn't have to be moved at all first (sideways).
There's a closer up pic of it.
So he's been on the couch since the accident so that I can take care of him and sleep out here with him in case he needs something in the middle of the night. He had a hard time trying to feed himself, so the first night I had to feed him. I know it's tough for him, but he's been so good about not complaining or anything. He's a tough kid!
Left clavicle and right wrist- what a bummer!!!
Yesterday we went to the surgeon to see when the surgery on his shoulder would need to take place. When we were in with the nurse, he got really sick from the pain meds and ended up throwing up, which she said was a good thing since they were going to take him in immediately to surgery. Then when the doctor came in, he decided that because he's only 18 he wanted to treat it as conservatively as possible. They put a clavicle brace on him which we will use for about 9 days, and then go in for another x ray. If it's working, we will keep doing that and hope the bones fuse back together on their own. If not, it will be a 2 part surgery, requiring a steel plate and screws to go over his shoulder, which will then have to be taken back out in another surgery 6 weeks later so the shoulder doesn't fuse wrong. We are praying that the brace works.
After they got the brace on they put a cast on his wrist. He chose to have it be red, and I think the cast is helping his wrist feel better already.

Well that's about all I have to write about the accident. I love Michael and I'm so glad it wasn't worse than it was. I hope he recovers quickly! Love you Mikey!
