Jaded: April 2011

So it's been a while since I posted, but I've been crazy busy with the new companies and life in general. The good news is I finally have something really worth blogging about!!

On April 16, 2011 I got to see Greenlei Maya be born. It was by far the most incredible experience thus far in my life. We (Josh, Michelle and I) went to the hospital at 7:30 am and got situated in the room.

Michelle's water broke around 9:30 or 10:00 I think. That was one of the funnier moments in the delivery. She didn't know whether her water had broke or she was just peeing all over everything. Haha. Josh and I had a good laugh with that one. She was dilated to a six at that point and kept walking around going "I think I feel a contraction." She's such a trooper, seriously...she was awesome. Although, she did make it look way too easy at that point lol.

After she was at a 6, she wasn't having any major contractions for a while so the staff made us go walk around the hospital to try to get her contractions to intensify. We walked for a while but not much luck with that, so we went back to the room and the midwife came in and gave her a couple other natural things to try before they put her back on PITT. After trying a mix of natural ways to jumpstart labor, she started getting more intense contractions. Josh was absolutely great, rubbing her back, feeding her ice chips, and telling her what a good job she was doing. It was a great moment to witness.

After a while of hard contractions and being done on the birth ball, she decided she needed to push, so she got up into the bed and she was right--she was ready to push. The next little while was definitely an incredible experience- one I will never forget. When the baby started to crown we saw how much dark hair she had and both Josh and I were totally amazed.

Then came the moment that I will never in my entire life forget. Greenlei's head was out and we were waiting for her to come out the rest of the way and take her first breath. You could definitely feel the spirit in the room. It was like Heaven and Earth had somehow merged in that moment and Heavenly Father was passing her down to Josh and Michelle. It was so awesome. And when she took her first breath she was not happy hahaha. Then the midwife clamped off the umbilical cord and handed Josh the scissors and Josh turned to me and asked if I wanted to do it. That was absolutely incredible. I officially have the best friends/cousins in the entire world.

She was born at 2:29pm and weighed 8 pounds 6.9 ounces and was 20" long. She is absolutely a beautiful baby. She loves having her hand up next to her mouth and she loves her mommy and daddy.

I just want to say thanks so much to Josh and Michelle who let me share such a special moment with them. I watch them with their other girls and I know what great parents they are and how much love they have for each of their kids. They didn't have to let me be there, and yet they did. Thanks so much you guys. I will never really be able to tell you how much that day meant to me.
